Payment of Fines | Parking Appeals
Policy: The person listed on the registration of the motor vehicle shall be held responsible for parking citations regardless of who may be driving the vehicle at the time of the violation, in compliance with
§ 46.21237 Code of Virginia.

Payment of Fines
Fines are to be paid in Cash, Check, Money Order or FLEX Points.
Fines may be paid at the Parking Services Office or mailed to:

Note: Parking
fines paid within 24 hours (one working day) will be lowered to
one-half the original fine (except no valid CNU decal, boot removal
fee, false or stolen decal, and parking in a handicapped space).
- Unpaid fines (three or more) or multiple violations
of traffic regulations may result in the suspension of parking
privileges, or booting of the vehicle
- Payment of one fine does not clear fines for previous violations.
- After 90 days Faculty/Staff unpaid parking fines will be submitted
to the Payroll Office for payroll docking.
- Parking holds will be placed on student accounts after 30
calendar days, or at the discretion of Parking Services.
- A letter will be sent for all unpaid tickets after 30 days.
A final letter will be sent for all unpaid tickets after 60
days.
- Parking fines unpaid at the end of 120 days will be sent to
a third party collection agency and submitted to the Virginia
Tax Debt-Set-Off Department.
Parking Appeals
The University provides a structured means to appeal citations. Please see the FAQ section for more details. Please make sure the address and phone numbers you list are complete, accurate, and legible. The Parking Services Office cannot be held responsible if you fail to receive your appeal notice under these circumstances. Remember to notify Parking Services of any address changes.

The parking citation (or a copy) must be included. The person
appealing the violation will be notified via mail of the Appeals
Committee's decision.
Illegible appeals will be rejected.
ALL APPEAL DECISIONS ARE FINAL
Please note that the following are NOT acceptable grounds for appeals:
- Lack of Space
- Only parked illegally for a few minutes
- Financial Hardship
- Inconvenient Assigned Area
- Bad Weather or Darkness
- Ignorance of Regulations
- Running Late
- Unread or Misunderstood Signs
- Failure to Receive Ticket
- Citation for Parking in a Handicap Space
- Citation for False or Stolen Decal
- Boot Removal Fee
